Up to exactly now, 17:00 on March 21, 2020, a total of 11,906 people worldwide have died of the disease since the outbreak of COVID-19 at the beginning of the year. Most of these people were already very old or had been very ill before and would not have had a long life ahead of them even without SARS-CoV-2. Today at 5 p.m. only, 15,300 people in the world have died of starvation. Although more people have died just today from malnutrition than from the new viral disease in overall terms, this has probably not been reported anywhere in the world in international newspapers or TV news programmes, neither today, nor yesterday, nor the day before yesterday. A large proportion of these deaths affected infants, toddlers, teenagers and young adults who could have lived for decades. If a politician in the Western world were to make such a comparison publicly, he might have to resign immediately.
